The historic Ryan House is an interesting example of 19th-century architecture.

George and Lucy Ryan were among the early settlers establishing the town of Sumner. George became Sumner's first mayor in 1891. The house's east wing is the original 1860s Kincaid/Seaman one-room cedar cabin. George Ryan bought the property in 1872 and enlarged the house in 1875. the main section was added in 1885 with wood from the Ryan sawmill. In 1926, Ryan's heirs donated the house to the City to be used as a library. It seerved as the Sumner Library until 1979. The house is now home to the Sumner Historical Society while the grounds are part of the City of Sumner’s parks.

Part of the house has been restored much as it was when the Ryan family lived there, while other parts form a museum of local historical interest. The current collection/exhibits include Daffodil Festival memorabilia, photographs, family histories, quilts, clothing, and tools. Limited research is available.
