The 93,000 square foot Oneida Community Mansion House, once home to the 19th century utopian Oneida Community, was constructed in stages between 1861 and 1914. After the breakup of the Community in 1880, a joint stock company called Oneida Community Ltd. was created which went on to become Oneida, Ltd., achieving worldwide recognition for the flatware it produced in Sherrill, NY.

The Mansion House, a National Historic Landmark, is a living museum with residential apartments, overnight lodging, Zabroso Restaurant, and banquet and meeting space. The wheelchair accessible site is open 365 days a year, excluding major holidays. A variety of programs are available for children and adults including guided and self-guided tours, permanent and changing exhibits, workshops, lectures, concerts, and other special events.

Tours reveal an interior key to Community life such as the Big Hall with its exquisite trompe l’oeil ceiling; the Upper Sitting Room that most defined their idea of home; the Community Library where lifelong education was encouraged and more than 100 newspapers, magazines and journals subscribed; and the Vestibule and its Cabinet of Curiosities.

The property encompasses 200 acres including the Oneida Community Cemetery, historic gardens and grounds, and the country's first corporate golf course. A Black Walnut tree and a Tulip tree were recently designated New York State champions.

The Oneida Community Mansion House is located at 170 Kenwood Ave., Oneida, NY. There is a nominal admission fee to tour the House. All overnight stays include breakfast and a tour. For information call 315-363-0745 or visit www.oneidacommunity.org.
