Jefferson's design for Poplar Forest is perhaps his most perfectly designed and executed work of architecture. It contained a lifetime of ideas from books and travel. Jefferson designed this house not only as a necessary retreat from the hustle and bustle of Monticello, but, more personally, as an idealistic architectural treat to please himself.
